Leadership

Election day will arise in a couple of weeks bringing in voters 18 or older to choose who will run our country for the next four years. The president not only is an important figure nationally, through politics and executive power, but he/she is also an important figure globally, representing our country as a whole through foreign affairs. Although I am not heavily educated in politics, I believe there are certain qualities a president should have to represent the United States. As a citizen of the United States and a future voter, it is important to consider the different qualities a leader/president should have in regards to taking office.

  1. Knowledgeable-As a leader, it is essential to have a good sense of problem solving over the current issues surrounding the world. Through the knowledge of those issues, the president allows their self to make educated decisions reflecting those problems. Also, it is important to be a knowledgeable president because a major part of presidency is discussing and giving speeches for the media, press, public, or at global affairs. The more informed a candidate is on the issues, the more wise and accurate the solutions enacted in the future will be.
  2. Unbiased and perceptive– This quality allow the president view the current issues in a citizen’s point of view, not just as Mr. President. Also, with this unbiased point of view, the president is able to take into account the safely and protection of every single citizen and to not discriminate against others. They should also listen to the public’s opinions on certain decisions because ultimately, many of these decisions effect the people.
  3. Respectful and Honest-These two major qualities are wanted for every leader whether it is for a school club or a group project. A respectful president involves treating everyone as equals and does not judge others by race, gender, or social status. Secondly, honestly towards the citizens helps us realize if the president is credible.  Our President must work every day to restore the trust of the American people in our government and shows a clear outlook on the future of the country as a whole.
  4. Sets goals and commits-Lastly, a president who sets goals and commits to them is crucial. In the United States, several problems surround us such as, immigration system, entitlement spending, national debt, healthcare, education system, foreign policy, etc. Having a president who sets goals and achieve them is what our country needs and shows the citizens that they elected a leader that can make changes to the world they live in for the better. All in all, four years from now when I am eligible to vote, these are the qualities I look for in choosing the right candidate to govern the United States.
